You are right, it probably will end up third, but that makes me ecstatic!
Highest grossing superhero flick! We did it guys....well maybe not US, but
it feels good. BTW the film now is #1 in 37 categories. To agree with you
it was a blast seeing it get there so fast. Box office mojo is predicting
it to pass THE DARK KNIGHT by this coming Friday. Do y'all know what makes
    this soooo amazing?

Yup

As I said in an earlier post, TDK had an extremely long time in the theaters. Turns out it was longer than I thought y'all! It stayed in the
theaters(obviously by then in a lot fewer)for a total of 231 days. So, it
boils down to this....if bom.com is right THE AVENGERS will gross in 28
days what TDK did in 231.

Yup.

The next question is how long will it be third... a lot of Batman fans are sure TDKR is going to knock off THE AVENGERS. Do y'all agree? I sincerely hope it doesn't! I relished my watching the box office progress and seeing it knock off all of TDK's fastest to records one by
one and now as you said Avatar's fastest to $500 mil has been grabbed
    too!

I am doubtful of that, for a few reasons. I think the movie will have a bit opening, but at the same time I am still doubtful that it will hit the incredible opening of the Avengers. One prime reason is it will not have the 3D tickets to help out. Both movies are well hyped going in, although I am not sure the fervor Avengers had is shared by TDKR. I could be wrong though.

Is it possible that TDKR will break DK total? Maybe, I think it is possible. It has a good chance of breaking 500 million domestic but I do not think it has quite the hype Avengers does. The trailers look ok to me but not great. So I think big opening and then it drops off faster than Avengers but benefits from stronger weekday numbers being released during the summer and all.
