    Quote:
Some of those movies were more sucessful due to their stars (Will Smith) Directors (James Cameron) or ground breaking sfx(Avatar) or were sequels or remakes of established franchises (Star Wars, Star Trek). GofG will have to have something going for it like at least one star, or known director which Marvel tends to shy away from due to budgetary concerns. Of course that doesn't ensure success as both Cowboys and Aliens and Super 8 underperformed at the box office and they both had either big name actors (Harrison Ford) or a big director (Spielberg). I'm not saying that GofG can't be successful, just that it will be difficult.

Come on, just admit defeat. \:\) (edit for some reason my smile face isn't showing here).

Saying that a movie is successful due to the actors, directors, special effects or sequels is irrelevant when it comes to these movies. The same can be said about every movie regardless of if it's a comic book movie or not. And even as you point out, just because a movie has a big star or director doesn't mean it's going to succeed.

There's really no reason to believe that GotG would have a tougher time at the book office from what the other Marvel movies experienced. People said Thor wasn't going to succeed because it was fantasy, no big stars, and had a little known director and it did great.
