They did resurrect him right? And it wasn't a Skrull,or an alternate reality version was it? Geez! Doesn't Marvel know when to leave well enough alone? Was there a huge calling for his return? You think that they could leave at least ONE classic death as is. But was the story worth his resurrection? Did they have to bring him back? I'm kind of miffed as to why his return was necessary. He didn't really NEED to die in the first place, but it was a classic, and everybody remembers it, so yeah, leave him dead. What other characters have been in the Remender run so far? I heard that they had Otherworld (Mad Jim Jaspers, Jamie Braddock?),and Lady Deathstrike? Sounds cool, and I like Captain Britian, but Captain Marvel? Why, Marvel, why?

He was brought back as a subplot of Avengers vs Xmen. The plan was created by a nephew of his to elevate the Kree race via the Phoenix force and thus redeem the family name of Mar-Vell. he needed a messiah to lead the Kree and thus used the Phoenix to revive Mar-Vell.

The Phoenix is approaching the Kree homeworld, Hala. It can't be stopped though Captain Britain was giving it his all. Mar-Vell then divines at the last minute that the Phoenix wanted the Phoenix energies that were still within him, keeping him alive and his cancer inert. So he makes the sacrifice move and saves his people and the Phoenix leaves. We see his burnt body laying somewhere on Hala and suddenly some plants, presumably the Cotati emerge and start to envelop his body......a possible way to get him back? Maybe.

Anyway the whole thing inspires Carol Danvers that the name Captain Marvel must continue to live on hence her impending name change and new series......

.....I'd rather have Mar-Vell back, but since Thanos appears to be the villain for the next Avengers movie that opens the door for characters like Mar-Vell and Drax to be on the big screen and since Marvel deliberately alters their books to mirror the movies (ref: mini series Battle Scars that replaces old Nick Fury with Sam jackson Fury) then the door is still slightly open for Mar-Vell to return
