I think I can kind of see what they mean there... It assumes you know NOTHING about the MU, so it kind of takes its time to explain a whole bunch of stuff that most of us already know.
Surprised myself. Especially after not caring much for the previous 5 issue set up. You're right there is a bit of an all-ages feel to it which could go either way. Avenging Spidey is like that too and is currently a fun read. My problem so fare is that up to now they really have explained almost nothing of merit that is most to long time readers.

There have been a lot of disagreeable directions for Avengers since Disassembled IMO. However there have been a few fun issues here and there. Like #6 - even though the series has been quite weak.
