Come to think of it, they are saying now that the dragon bestows to the Iron Fist the power of the Iron fist, but wasn't the power suppose to be the person focusing all their chi into their fist? Have they retconned it just for this story?

IIRC, he focuses his chi which was infused with the mystical power that drove/was/imbued the dragon of K'un Lunn. So, technically it seems it was Iron Fist that manifested the power of Shao Lao.
