Just curious, does Marvel own the rights to the title name AVENGERS (in USA) or does the current comic series of the classic TV Avengers just prefer to market their book under Steed and Mrs Peel? There seems to be both pros and cons to having the competitor title using the recognizable title.

I'm pretty sure Marvel's Avengers trademark for comics is multinational (I think it exists in the UK, too--but don't quote me on that), but it definitely applies in the States. There can legally be no other Avengers comic than Marvel's. While it could certainly be argued in court that title trademarks should be genre-based, the US comics market is so dominated by superheroes that they are still almost synonymous. I mean, who would confuse the two distinctly different marks?

OT: I really liked the variant cover homages of the Steed/Peel #0 to various classic X-Books: Unmcanny X-Men #134 and New Mutants #39. Considering the whole Hellfire Club thing took heavily from the show, I think it's perfect homaging.

I can't answer for sure, but I'm suspicious that maybe Marvel can't use "The Avengers" as a trademark in the UK. Over here, for example, the movie was released as "Avengers Assemble".
