Bendis needs Charles out of the way for his new X-Men series, the one with the time-displaced original five brought to the present.

For them to feel disconnected from what's going on now, you can't have an Xavier around.

Most of their current incarnations are unrelatable to them:

Cyclops is evil.
Our Jean has been dead for a while.
Angel/Archangel I think has amnesia. Does he have the metal wings?
And the X-student Hank might be horrified by the current Beast.

If I were Iceman, I'd be worried. He'll have to be put out of commission too.

I do like the premise of that new X-Book. I don't know that a Bendis written book will ever work for me again though. I'm too aware of him instead of the characters.
