Quote: From what I understand, Iron Firt received some kind of retcon (He's had quite a few hasn't he?) and something happened with him and the Phoenix Force? Can anyone explain this please? Why the heck are the Avengers and the X-Men fighting anyway?
It seems that hundreds of years ago, there was a Chinese redhead that got touched by the Phoenix, and the Kun-Loonies (or whatever they're called) helped train her. Since then, there's been a prophecy of another manifestation, which is what we have now.
Does the connection have any story potential, or was it a waste of time?
Quote: The X-Men believe (pretty much religiously; there's no logical reason for them to think so) that the Phoenix will rekindle the X-Gene if Hope is allowed to harness it.
Why do the X-Men care if any more mutant children are born? Doesn't it pretty much solve all their problems if no more come about? Humans won't feel so threatened if the number of mutants tapers off, which should diminish their persecution.
It's not like they have a culture or set of traditions that will die out.
Or do you mean they think Hope can repower the mutants that Wanda normalized? With that angle too, you'd think there would be a faction of ex-mutants that would be happy about losing their extra arm or whatnot.

The mutants view themselves as a species unique from humanity so they view the lack of new mutants as an impending extinction.
