Does anyone agree with me that Batman: Year One is a little bit overrated. I do think it's pretty good, and I really like the (Jim) Gordon parts, but I don't really see why people hold this storyline as the best or second best Batman story. It did have really good art. Maybe I'll re-read it again, but I think the Long Halloween was better.

Year One was groundbreaking because it portrayed a very realistic view of Batman, as if the character and his cast existed in the real world. No bulging muscles, strictly human abilities. It was the most human Batman had been since his introduction in 1939.
Whether or not it's the best Batman story... well, that's a matter of opinion, isn't it? My preferences for the best Batman stories lean towards the 1970s Adams/O'Neil era, probably because that's what I grew up with. However, I think most of us agree that Year One was a very good story, better than about 97% of the rest of the Batman mythos.
