Indeed, those were the days, Dick choosing to pass on the name of Robin to Jason, not finding out more or less by accident.

>Since the most creative sort of angst Bat-writers can come up with regarding 'Wingster is his issues with Batdaddy, I'd be willing to bet Batman still took some action that equaled him firing Dick as Robin, and him becoming Nightwing is Dick passive aggressive revenge.

Indeed he did. Dick was late for a mission in Gotham, and despite pointing out that he had been busy with the Titans rescuing dozens of endangered kids, it wasn't good enough for Bat-Daddy, who told him to either stay as his sidekick, or get the heck out of Gotham... oh and leave the costume and identity behind.

Ironically, Alfred had just prepared a new Robin costume for Dick looking like the adult Earth-2 version we might have hoped he'd take had he stayed as Robin much past the age of 19...

Actually, pre-Crisis, Dick wore that costume BEFORE the adult Earth-2 Robin began using it.

In a JSA/JLA crossover, a situation arose on Earth-2 where the younger Dick's Robin costume got damaged beyond repair, and his older counterpart said "I've got something for you to wear..."

He said it was designed for him by a friend, but he'd never used it. Young Dick put it on and wore it for the rest of the story. People wondered if he'd stick with it, but it wasn't to be.

Apparently somebody liked the costume, tho', since the Earth-2 Robin did end up finally switching to it some time later.

That Batman costume he'd previously worn, with its Robin mask, yellow Batman cape and the emblem with an "R" in the middle of the bat wings...over a RED moon...was a little strange.

Nice that they channged to an adult version of his original costume.
