For me it was that, and also because it doesn't further the story in any way. Some may argue that she is a former love interest for Montoya, that her relevance stems from what was and what could be. But really, it would have been a lot more compelling if she had been the Question's love interest, given his current...state.

I see it as a marketing ploy to pull in homosexual readers, but given the amazing work they've been churning out on a weekly basis, I can't see why they would need such a lame gimmick.
