Your friend is likely getting confused by the opening of the Morrison run, which featured the Joker mistakenly killing a crazed ex-cop who'd put on a Batman costume with the real Batman turnign up too late to do anything about it. It does appear that the current story will explain just why a crazy ex-cop was running around as Batman in those pages.

Given that we've seen that it's Bruce Wayne under the cowl constantly since One Year Later, and had Batman off finding himself for the entirety of 52 before that, it's simply not likely that we'll see some bizxarre and sweeping retcon of every Batman story of the past year.

Much as I hate to say it, getting comics hype third or fourth hand from a buddy tends to be far less accurate than even...gulp...the Internet.

Its from the Comic Book Resources boards, but there have been no `hints/leaks' as far as I can tell, just wild speculation on the part of a group of fans who seam to think Morrison's characterisation of Batman is off (they've actually spent just as much time arguing over which James Bond movie the last issue was riffing on). I think they as readers maybe: just didn't pay enough attention to the character development events in the new crisis or 52; don't get flash-backs/forwards as literary device; or even more importantly, just have never read any of Denis O'Neil's stuff (clearly Morrison's chief influence in terms of his Batman). I dont think Batman's an imposter. But I guess only time will tell. GM does tend to write some pretty wacky stuff
