This is the best Joker story I've ever read - for the first time a writer has successfully balanced the Joker's mania with a humanity rarely seen in the character, even as he commits his most atrocious crimes yet. I've never seen the Joker as subdued and sympathetic as he was at the end of the story when Batman offers to personally help him and he somberly states, "It's too late for me now..."
