After his Nightwing debacle, he showed up again to confront Duella Dent, the Joker's Daughter and prevent her kidnapping someone, a few minutes later Duella was killed, and he started investigating why, and by whom. He met up with Donna and because he hasn't killed anyone recently, she seems to think that was enough to earn him a second chance.

It's been suggested that the writer on that story, Bruce Jones, had originally been hired to right Nightwing on the assumption that Jason would be filling the role (Since Dick was originally destined to die in "Infinite Crisis") and then had to frantically rewrite the whole thing to use Dick.

One of these ripples caused a change in reality. Turns out Jason was never meant to die, he was supposed to survive the Joker's attack, so the punch corrected the timeline. Therefor some time after his "death" Jason suddenly found himself alive... but due to a few wrinkles still in the timeline he was still badly injured and buried in his coffin. He managed to dig himself out, but was severely amnesiac and injured. He was eventually found by Talia (of all people) and she took care of him (as a potential pawn in her relationship with Batman) and eventually pushed him into a Lazarus Pit.
