The Mask of Phantasm was a great film, but it really had no villain and Joker wasn't at all how he is in the comics.

Batman Begins was so great, it became the standard for superhero films.

Whether people like or not, it is the definitive Batman film and a film that trascends the genre.

The Dark Knight is being called a masterpiece and as Heath Ledger supposedly gives the first true portrayal of the Joker ever, I wouldn't be surprised if it is a masterpiece.
