I guess Bruce Wayne will be taking a break from being Batman, but how or why or in what form, or who will take over as Batman, I don't really know. We can all guess. But as far as what's happening in the story, we all know the same thing. It's not exactly a fast moving or overly predictable story. Personally I like a story that keeps me on my toes. And then again, these message boards are wonderful because someone always picks out stuff that would never occur to me. Personally, I kind think it's symptomatic of modern comics that they have to be safe, obvious, and bowing at the feet of continuity. That doesn't exactly appeal to people who might be new to comics, which does explain, I think, why comic readership is shrinking at a steady rate. Newcomers look at it and think, "Do I have the years, decades, lifetimes of prior knowledge to get it? To be welcome?" and the answer is usually "No. Go away. You're not wanted." Fortunately the non Marvel and DC graphic novel movement is gaining mainstream / alternative "coolness factor." So I guess there's hope for comics not to go the way of the dodo bird. But things aren't looking good for we message board dwellers.
Uhh, right, we're talking about Batman. Yes, I get it, as far as any of it can be gotten. It'll do better upon rereading, like books or movies do with rereading or rewatching. When the final issue is released there'll come a sound of skin on skin as we Batman followers slap our foreheads in unison. "Oh, so THAT'S what it was all about!" And then we'll race to our computers, log onto our favourite message boards to be the first to write a post about how much it sucked and we want Bruce Wayne back as Batman.
