Boost sales.

Heh. You're a comics reader. Batman is one of the most well-known characters in all of comics history. What do YOU think. ;\-\)

> Is DC trying to reinvigorate the franchise like Marvel did Cap? i would think success of the dark knight a new batman would be very confusing to new reader attracted by the movie.

All three of them?

Seriously, no. People are very, very willing and able to accept that certain things in the comics are different they are in movies. Or different in movies than they are on television. The Batman in the Bale movies is different than on the on in "Justice League Unlimited." And that one is different than "The Batman." And different still from "Batman: The Brave and the Bold," yes? Not to mention that the Adam West Batman, which is obviously different, is still very memorable to people. No one's head has exploded yet. Following a train of logic that says comics have to be exactly like the movies (or vice-versa!) is just silliness. \:\-\)
