Oh, man, am I ever going to miss this title...

Bane, after learning that no matter what he does from here on out that he still will end up in Hell when he dies, has decided that it's time to REALLY break Batman, by taking out the Batman family piecemeal with his own team. Bane starts this out by recruiting his fellow Secret Six members to his cause, and then leading a total assault on the Penguin's compound.

As much of an awesome spotlight as this has been for Bane, the Penguin comes across as the MAN here, for a change. Just when I was starting to despair of anyone at DC really being able to write Oswald as awesome as he should be, Gail Simone OWNS it. The Six take out the Penguin's guards and then begin to torture him for information on Batman's friends and allies... and promptly hit the wall, because as expert as Bane can be at torture, he can't crack Oswald, whose inner core of will surprises everyone. Bane may have broken Batman, but he can't break the Penguin... and that's just AWESOME. Ultimately, Oswald's coerced into assisting the Six by threats against his birds, which was a nice touch... and Bane realizes that he needs the Penguin on board to really make his plan work, dragooning Oswald into the Secret Six. (Who, it should be noted, now have nine active members...)

Anyone who loves the Batman titles and characters should be reading this last arc for the title, before it gets washed away in the reboot. I'm going to miss this book most of all....

Bane's revelation in the last couple of issues of Secret Six has been long awaited. It's too bad this title isn't going to be part of the DCNU. It's sad because at least at my LCS the S6 fly off the shelf. On another note does Bane know that there are now Batmen to contend with?It should be interesting when they meet.
