> What to say about this issue?
There's the set up and exposition and breakout and capture and Orphan arrival that you mention.
> Ra's explains that he created Shiva and she became more Catholic than the Pope and rebels against Ra's.
Heh.
> Ra's is so lame he needs Bruce to take Shiva down. Ulysses breaks Jacob from the perch taking Tim's Red Robin under glass uniform with him.
Hmm...
> Last page - Cass Caine has a couple of swords and has killed a bunch of Shiva's ninjas that Ra's lured to the Batcave.
This happened at Shiva's fallback location didn't it? Her base after taking Bats? Orphan continues to get battle props. Good for her. Shiva's not too shabby taking over Gotham either, ATM.
> We also learned that Ra's used magic to erase Bruce's knowledge of the League of Shadows. It has happened three times. Now we know why Bruce was so against the idea of the League.
Did Ra's imply he learned that magic spell from Zatara? And does Shiva have teleport resources - or was that probably just smoke and mirrors?
> This issue is all set up and exposition. Nothing happens. I did learn that Bruce had his own private prison that held hake and crew without benefit of trial or other legal niceties. Not cool. Shows why villain discovers hero's identity is a dangerous story plot. Writer paint themselves into a corner and the result is often a story where characters act out of character because they can't take the story to its logical conclusion.
We've see variations of the Batprison before. Wasn't HUSH a prisoner once? And yeah - generally speaking - any covert longterm internment ain't cool.
> What else did I not like? A choice made by the artist. Ra's is shown smugly smiling at Bruce on several occasions. No, just no. Ra's doesn't grin like a smug teenager. He is too cool for that.
Didn't mind the smile. Saw it more as a smug manipulator. Actually all the facial expressions were the onlye noteworthy thing of the otherwise average art.
> Also did not like the Men in Black mindwipe. Makes Bruce look lame. Basically Ra's defeats Bruce time after time. We don't see it, we are told. A particular writing habits I dislike.
Don't like it either.
Well, it really doesn't paint Batman that good at all.
Neat review.
