I'v seen a lot of online reviews that are stunned that King has shown that Batman is afraid of happiness because he's afraid once he achieves it, this happiness will be taken away, so he self-sabotages.

One - That is hardly a profound observation. We all self-sabotage.

Two - That's a writer's choice. Instead of writing a story about a relatively-mentally healthy Batman, writers since Frank Miller have mostly been writing him as a psycho.

The observation that Bats is a control freak and self-sabotaging is hardly new and at this point really tiresome.

Or I could be wrong.
