From the little I know of superhero-to-radio-to-TV-to-film history, I think you're right.
My memory of what I've read of comics history says:
* Superman became a household name in one decade largely because of, in chronological order, the radio show, followed by the 1940s Fleischer Brothers cartoon, followed by the serials, followed by the TV show
* Batman was on the verge of cancellation before the 1966 movie and 1966-1968 TV show
* Most non-comics people only know about Wonder Woman from the 1970s TV show, and learned about the X-Men from the 1990s Fox cartoon
* The "Spider-Man" 1970s TV specials were far from perfect, but it, like the 1960s cartoon in syndication at the time, kept the brand alive in the late 1970s
And on and on.
I liked the first FF film because a) I LOVE those characters and b) that I understood this was about introducing "new" characters to today's "tweens." I'm only expecting them to do a better version of what they did before, so they can make the maximum amount of money. So if that's what it takes to see characters I love on the big screen, taking their rightful role as a major part of the popular culture (like they did before "Star Wars"), then so be it.

Hmmm....sounds like a justification for everything Millar, Hudlin, and now McDuffie, has done, hasn't it? LOL!
I'd be more excited about this possibility if I had any respect for Tim Story as a director. I think the FF were more respectable before Story touched them, and I don't think I'd want the world to know BP through another trashy FF movie. But maybe crappy exposure is better than none, who knows.

> > Who might we see in Fantastic Four 3? One possibility appears to be Black Panther, who first appeared in Fantastic Four vol. 1, #52 in 1966. A film based on Black Panther, long championed by Wesley Snipes (Snipes had been expected to play the character until he became so deeply entrenched in the Blade franchise), has struggled to make its way to the big screen. It wouldn't be that difficult, however, to give the character a supporting part to play in a FF sequel.

Or someone like Black Panther, who was introduced in their book, get Djimon Hounsou and go do it?' But there are so many other great villains and stories - I feel like I hit the jackpot."
