This is from a Cap reader for 25 years who has read every Captain America issue since 100 in 1968/69.

I am just disgusted about Steve Rogers dying. Seems everything in our lives change as we get older our family members die and now our heroes die. Sad to think I am a 33 year old man crying that a comic character is gone but this is a fact. I don't know what to think or feel, I am numb about this. Wolverine or Punisher as CAPTAIN AMERICA??? come on man that is just John Walker 100X on steriods. Only think I can say is thank god Bucky Barnes is back in the picture hopefully to carry on the torch of Captain America and his values which are as American as apple pie. God bless you Steve Rogers and good night my friend.

All in the name of telling a good story. I have faith in Ed Brubaker that he'll make a great story out of this. Captain America has languished for too many years of bad stories. Brubaker is actually making people care about the character. The fact that you're lamenting the death of the character means the story has elicited emotions from you and many fans like you.

While my initial reaction was to be annoyed that they were killing off my favorite Marvel character, once I get my head on straight, I realized just how much I enjoy Brubaker's stories and the fact that I never know where he's going to go next. I'm glad he's shaken things up and want to see what he'll do with the story.

Worry not. I'll bet there's more than meets the eye here.
