He's giving preference to customers who come into his store on the day of release but he's giving you preference over customers who come into his store Thursday. That seems reasonable to me unless you've prepaid for the book ala a subscription. In the case of Cap #25 he no doubt had dozens of people calling on the phone to hold a copy while there were dozens of people in his store trying to buy one or five. Unlike a hotel or restaurant reservation...first come first serve rules retail! : )

Why offer the service then? I guess he knew that I would be back where as the guy in there at the time might go down the road. I haven't prepaid for anything with this arrangement and he has to look out for his best interest. Maybe a subscription is my best interest. He's jeopardizing $20-30 per month for life (mine or his) to make an extra $2.99.
