Reply Subj: Is Captain America as good a fighter without his shield as he is with it?

I am not questioning that without his shield Captain America is a great fighter without his shield. But something I often wonder is if a fighter like him is so used to having a certain weapon even it is just its mere presence it creates a certain comfort. That and how they used to fighting with it compared to fighting without it. Sort of like how Hawkeye is a good h2h fighter on his own, but is a far better fighter with his bow. Would you say that Captain America is even a tiny bit better with his shield or is he equal with and without his shield?

Back during the Heroes Return era, Cap lost his classic shield to the depths of the ocean. As I recall he tried a replica shield, a replica of his original shield, before moving onto the photonic shield. Cap remarked several times how he was having to adjust to the new shields; the replica of the round one didn't have the same bounce, he couldn't throw the original shield like the round one, and the photonic one lacked the weight he was used to. While he adapted to the new shield, it still threw him off hims game a little. It's just hard to see in the results because he's still Captain America.

Since he became Super Soldier, he's been running around without a shield (though occasionally using the photonic one) and I haven't seen him comment at all about the lack of his old shield throwing him off. So right now it seems he is doing just fine without it, though I prefer the Heroes Return depiction of a shield change better, it makes more sense.
