According to a recent X-men: First Class issue Karnaks abilities aren't due to Terrigen exposure, they're just skill.

Is this a cast-iron example of a retcon or is it compatable to continuity? If he can sense structural weaknesses just by intuition and exploit them to such effect is it a gimmick The Mandain for example could mimic? \(coffee\)

The Mandarin's thing seems to be mostly about channeling Chi into raw physical power. I've seen no significant evidence that he could mimic Karnak's weak-point-sense.
