I know Osborn had one sided prep, but shouldn't Asgard have some defenses?

You would think they would have guards and tech to alert them and have some sort of battle plan in place. They were all (king, best warrior, most powerful warrior) taken out in like three minutes. Even when Surfer attacked there were guns fired on him. These are warriors around for thousands of years. Thermyscira, New Genesis, Shi'ar homeworld, JLA Watchtower or, hell, even Medieval Times in New Jersey wouldn't fall like this. Hogwarts had some defensive spells around it. You'd think the biggest magic users around would at least get a three headed watchdog. Even a castle in the Middle Ages with street level archers would have put up a bigger fight.

Seriously, what's up with that?

This is the problem with events as portrayed in Siege #1. Asgard has been invaded countless times. This is a warrior race with enemies all across the nine worlds. Their entire lifestyle is built around war and defense. Then the Green Goblin, who admitteds in the same issue he knows little of Asgardians, concocts a plan to take them out in minutes. Their guardian's super senses are on the fritz and their noblest and most accomplished defender rushes in, throws one punch, and gets KO'd. Maybe some of us Thor fanboys were upset about a low showing by the Thunder God, but I think when you look at it from this perspective you have to agree something is rotten in Asgard. Perhaps Bendis will redeem himself by revealing that Loki interfered with Heimdall's senses or cast some other spells, but I doubt it.
