Batman is supposed to be one of the most gifted martial artists in the world. Why do writers keep depicting Batman struggling against the Joker in a fistfight?

Often they have not but I do not know the specific examples. I imagine one out is Batman is about order and such and Joker chaos, so it may be harder to predict what he is going to do.

To me that would be a lame out though.
