Quote:After over 40 years of being two of Marvel's most popular uber-powerful characters, Odin and Galactus square off and are revealed to be... equal. Personally, I think the fight was pretty lame with each character delving into the memories of the other when they were young. It makes these usually grand enigmatic cosmic/mystic forces way too relatable on human terms, and the characteristics of this mental battle seemed extremely simplistic. At least the art was good.
I agree with Davym after ready his post. I am something of a Galactus and Surfer homer but I was trying to find a good reason I did not enjoy the issue more than I have, and part of what you said and he said seem to match up well. The story is lacking something.
That we are only seeing one side really hurts it IMO. I think a bit more from Galactus and Surfer would be handy. How did they become aware of this thing, what does it do, why it is important to them and so on? And for that matter why does Odin want it so much. There are just questions we are not answering, even as background info. We know no motivations.
And as for the fight itself I agree with you. I have always thought that Galactus should be more powerful than Odin, or any standard Earth or planet god. But that does not seem to be the case sadly. Although from Fractions point of view as I think other writters might see it differently but that is always the case with comics. Anyway, I believe I said in the Thor board that I really wish we got to see something else with the fight.
The fighting on other planes is great and fun, but the whole memory war thing is not all that compelling to me. And as you say, I think it removes some of their granduer. I would actually be hoping more for fights on other planes being similar to physical combat on another plane. There have been more entertaining fights between random characters over the years. These are gods.
