> Gotta disagree here. Kyle went from being a DC flagship character(on promotional items, action figures, etc) and headlining his own title to be relegated to a co-star in the second tier GL book.
I wouldn't called that 'screwed over'. He hasn't been outright killed off like Blue Beetle or Firestorm. DC didn't have him 'retire' or turn into a villain(permanently, at least). There are so many ways Johns could have gotten Kyle out of the way, but he didn't. He's still around, and is appearing as a major character in the GLC title. Speaking as a Kyle fan, I'm glad he's still around at least.
| > I think Johns handled Kyle well(especially in Rebirth and SCW), but there's no doubt his stature has been reduced in DCU. I mean he's the third GL on the list when the JLA comes calling.|
I don't blame Hal for that, I blame John. Kyle was replaced on the JLA when they gave John Stewart his ring back, before Rebirth even started.
That being said, I think the only real mistake they made with Kyle was the Ion business. When the GLC book started, I was looking forward to seeing Kyle starring in that book with Guy--only for them to remove him from it to become Ion. Now they're doing what they should have done with him from the beginning, so they got it right eventually.
