I wouldn't called that 'screwed over'. He hasn't been outright killed off like Blue Beetle or Firestorm. DC didn't have him 'retire' or turn into a villain(permanently, at least). There are so many ways Johns could have gotten Kyle out of the way, but he didn't. He's still around, and is appearing as a major character in the GLC title. Speaking as a Kyle fan, I'm glad he's still around at least.

I don't blame Hal for that, I blame John. Kyle was replaced on the JLA when they gave John Stewart his ring back, before Rebirth even started.

That being said, I think the only real mistake they made with Kyle was the Ion business. When the GLC book started, I was looking forward to seeing Kyle starring in that book with Guy--only for them to remove him from it to become Ion. Now they're doing what they should have done with him from the beginning, so they got it right eventually.
