I liked this issue the first time I read through it. The art, as usual, is great, and I really liked getting to see the new take on Barry's career as a scientist. Though the secret origin of Barry's bow tie was just plain silly.

Oddly enough, I'm perfectly okay with the slow pace here, even though it was the slow pacing that bothered me most in "Lightning in a Bottle" and "The Wild Wests." Maybe it's the fact that it's billed as a miniseries. Maybe it's just the focus on Barry "slowest man alive" Allen.

But I'm really starting to get annoyed at the way characters who haven't appeared in years are dragged out of limbo just long enough to be killed. I suppose it's better than killing off Wally, Jay, etc., but it still feels like someone's trying to clean house by removing clutter that isn't really cluttering anything up. Why is it that "Rebirth" is so focused on death? It's getting to the point that I'm starting to evaluate every single character's chance of dying by the end.
