I think this series is becoming more facile as it progresses. The producers and writers don't even seem to care whether or not a storyline actually makes sense anymore. This one certainly didn't. It was all style and no substance.
Enough with the time travel stories already. Enough with new speedsters and returning speedsters and reborn speedsters and doppleganger speedsters. It's really beginning to feel like the production team have run out of fresh ideas and are constantly returning to past storylines that worked in the hope they'll work again. And again. And again. And considering they have 70 years of comics material to draw from, that's unforgivable.
Character development is being sacrificed as we have to pause with monotonous regularity while the writers have fun playing in a new reality instead of getting on with some serious storytelling. I genuinely can't remember where Barry and Iris are in their relationship right now, and at this point I don't care.
And to place this story as a season opener! If you're going to persuade new viewers to become regular viewers, this is probably the episode you're going to achieve that with. To kick of a whole series with a throwaway story, and a confusing, nonsensical mess of a story at that is madness.
The production team really need to get their act together and start moving the series forward if the show is to survive. 'Flashpoint' is already the lowest placed 'opening night' of three so far ratings-wise. Not bad by any means, but still a worrying downward trend.
