One might surmise that being super fast causes Barry to act sometimes without thinking ahead, that combined with the fact that he is still a young rookie hero could explain his stupidity at times.

I can appreciate that element, and yet having just sat through pre-series 3 reruns of the second season the point is made very apparent that Barry is fundamentally a deeply insecure and emotionally vulnerable man, dangerously so. His friends even have to lock him up to prevent him acting on his emotional instinct and acting rashly, and based on his track record I could not blame them for this.
Considering his age, the world that being The Flash has opened to him, and his accomplishments thus far, the complete lack of growth in his character and crushing low self-confidence is a real cause for concern three series' in as both he and the show are beginning to show the signs of standing still. Of being stuck in a loop repeating. Repeating. Rehashing...
