I'd bet pretty much everybody does.

But Gullivar Jones was first published in 1905, and the first John Carter story was published in 1912.

And there are so many striking similarities in the characters I don't think there can be any doubt that Edgar Rice Burroughs was... shall we say... 'heavily influnced' by the earlier work.
