For that matter, was Captain Marvel a Superman knock-off (as DC claimed)? He outsold big blue for a while there.

How about Marvelman/Miracleman? Probably not for sales but maybe for critical response.

The Watchmen over the Charlton Heroes? Again for cultural impact more than sales or number of issues published.


Does a knock off by the same author count?

How about Conan being massively more popular than Kull?
