The same way it was hinted at with Rictor. Nothing has been explicitly stated, but it was recently brought up in the newest X-Factor. It's been implied that Rictor and Shatterstar grew very close together. Although for Shatterstar, it's not so much being gay as being a product of a different culture/society. I'm trying to say there was no label for it, he simply grew close to Rictor in a natural fashion.
