For me? Too much.

This is a cheap exploitive way for Joey Q and friends to turn around the teasing talk he's engaged in for the better part of a year about Speedball.

Heck, I'm not even sure its internally consistent, since Speedball was repeatedly shown not really having a sense of feeling responsible for the Stamford thing. So almost dying changed that? I'm not sure I get that. Or the lesson this character is supposed to teach us.

Makes you wonder what Joey has planned for his other big target--Mary-Jane?

Penance... Hurts so good! Only not!

Bear with me. I'm a sort of Miller fan, I'm British, I love Judge Dredd. I usually like my heroes hard boiled slightly loopy nuts. I love the Punisher.

But Speedball was different. I loved the fact that Robbie had a cat that had the same powers as him. I loved the fact that Speedball's powers were an artistic delight. He was Marvel's answer to Plastic Man...a super-hero who always existed in a cartoony world no matter how dark it was around him.

I hate Penance. I hate that instead of trying to work Speedball into a proper role they've torn him down and reinvented him as some sort of pain feuled sado-maniac. This isn't the 90s. This isn't Image comics. This sucks.

I hope Niels the cat shows up as some sort of Penny the pain powered kitty counterpart.
