So I've been reading essential Spiderman and I notice that every sentance ands in an exclamation point or a question mark. So when did the characters stop yelling?

It used to be general practice to use exclamation points, because periods wouldn't always show well on the printed page. They did a brief experiment with using periods in 1971, and the result was something like Fantastic Four #112, which seemingly has no punctuation at all.
