Reply Subj: So who was behind the whole Stamford incident? (Potential Spoilers, obviously)

Previous Post

I remember hearing about how Norman Osborn offered to reveal who was actually behind the Stamford explosion involving the New Warriors and Nitro.

Was this ever followed up on, or has it been dropped?

Wasn't it hinted that there was some larger force pulling the strings behind all the superhero fighting?

Or has all this been my imagination?

I can see the Mad Thinker pulling something like this off, since his computer-like brain would be able to accurately balance all the different variables involved, how the different players in the drama would react, and how to arrange matters properly so everything works out the way he plans.

Maybe he's the one exploiting the Skrulls...

So that's all this was? A way for Damage Control to make work and cash in?

Talk about your major letdowns. I thought we'd have an evil genius turn out to be behind this.

Hell, Marvel has all kinds of villains who'd be suitable candidates:

-The Mad Thinker (has the smarts to correctly predict all the variables)

-Mephisto (his tricking and manipulating Tony would explain an awful lot)

-Cobweb (Secretly messing with the heads of a number of powerful people could easily lead to this sort of disaster, and Cobweb is a master planner, if you've read the Sleepwalker stories)

-Nightmare (see Cobweb)

-Loki ('Nuff said, as Stan would say)

-Dr. Doom (see Loki)

-The Headmen (this is the kind of crazy scheme they could pull off)

-The Skrulls (Again, 'Nuff said)

Any of these villains could be the masterminds behind the Civil War. I know Cobweb might still be imprisoned in the Mindscape, but has anyone been keeping track of the Headmen? How about Mephisto or Nightmare? Could Doctor Strange have been so caught up in this business with the Illuminati that his enemies dropped out of sight?
