..but in some aspects I still would add the 90s. DeFalco's Thor and FF, David's Hulk, Harras' Avengers, they were gems in the department of continuity.

...just not of the 2 main X-books!

It does seem to me that the Spider Man and X-franchises suffered the most in the 90s. Howard Mackie, well, of his work I do not have fond memories.

But there was a lot of good stuff going on and at the very least, new characters, both heroes and villains, were still be added to the MU constantly. Not all of them were interesting characters (Maggot, Joseph, Cecelia Reyes, etc.), but many were.

I, for instance, wouldn't mind seeing Emplate, Comcast/Blackbox, and a refurbished Dark Riders used more often or in new ways, or Proctor and the Gatherers, or the Animus/Hate-Monger.

Tight continuity is really not that hard, but let's face it, when you whittle the once-extensive list of core Marvel titles down to practically nothing, many of the major characters have to spill over somewhere into other titles, and clear continuity becomes far more difficult.

Of course, the gross overuse of Spider Man and Wolverine among others doesn't help, nor does consigning 85% of the cast of the MU to at least tempary oblivion (or, the length of JQ's tenure) doesn't either.

Peace, PP.
