So much for Cryptic putting together an on-line massive multiplayer Marvel Universe game. Looks like the makers of City of Heroes has given up the ghost and purchased the intellectual property of the Champions Role-Playing Game and are going to run with that.

I really liked Champions, it was a fun system with all types of wild possibilities when it came to building your heroes, although I seemed to have something close to 200 six sided little dice around eventually \:\)

They've got a web site going at and you can join the online community. Why would you wanna do that? Well, back when City of Heroes was a pipe dream I went in and they contacted me to be on the second wave of beta testers for that game. It was great fun playing on an unstable server for limited timeframes, giving feedback to the devs, and playing side by side with some of the more boisterous beta testers who's egos were only shadowed by their ability to find bugs and cheats in the system.

Too bad it isn't Marvel, but I'm REALLY looking forward to the game itself..

Remember kids, The EIC of Marvel says that smoking is bad, divorce is bad, but Satanic Pacts are A-OK(as long as the Devil makes the offer FIRST)!

Gah, Champions! I remember a friend of mine named Nick would make incredibly sick characters, using every trick in the book and writing up a few of his own. The Variable Power Pool was the most lethal weapon in his arsenal. But his most creative power abuse was Force Wall. He would have five Force Walls with a hold in their middle so he could shoot through them. Champions was one of the reasons I quit running live table top games.
