Ah, here's another favorite old villain of mine....Brian DeWolff, the Wraith! I've always liked this guy. Not only was he related to famous police captain Jean DeWolff, but he was one mixed up customer! His telepathic powers drove him wacky, although his father had a hand in the things he did in his first appearance in MTU. The Wraith became a good guy for a short while in IRON MAN #103-108 before he went zonkers again in MTU #72, when he took over the Maggia and hired Whiplash to do his dirty work. He also used to be a cop, too. On an interesting note, Bill Mantlo, who created the Wraith, wrote all of his appearances in the 70s.
Unfortunately, the Wraith became the latest victim of Scourge (although that's Flash Thompson in a Hobgoblin suit on the cover).
But what some of you may or may not know, the Wraith survived, becoming a disembodied consciousness that took over some nutjob who ran a cult of vampire-wannabes. The Wraith ran afoul of Morbius and Deathlok and was killed off again by Morbs at the end of the two-part story. Being a disembodied consciousness, who's to say that Brian DeWolff is really dead? Unfortunately, Marvel has left him in the ground, at least for now. Maybe someday....
But there's a new Wraith in town, you know.
Thanks. Keep up the good work.
