By avoidance.

I have a list of certain writers (6 or 7 of them) that I avoid. If I see their name attached to a certain title I will not order that title.

I have a list of certain characters (mostly created after the year 2000) that I avoid. If I read they are going to appear in a title I will not order that title.

I avoid all major cross overs. If there is a title I am reading and it takes part in the cross over I don't order that book again until the cross over is done.

So as a Marvel Zombie from 1975 until 2000 I buy very few Marvel books these days.

There was a time when I would follow a character no matter who was doing the writing. These days certain writers will keep me away. Even great artist (like JR.Jr.) can not get me to order his books if he is working with one of the writers off of my list.

(DC is kind of the same way for me. Just not as bad.)
