Why all the PAD hate?

I don't "hate" Peter David. I don't personally know the man. I just don't care for his writing style. Peter David seems to me to be the type of writer who instead of saying "can I tell a good Character X story?" He says "can I tell my story using Character X?" So he will bend, twist, fold and transform Character X to fit his story. So when he is all done Character X is no longer Character X. Peter David isn't the only one guilty of this. Many writers are doing this more and more. Also I don't think his "in" jokes are very funny.
