Or clicking the "Rick Text" link under the word message and then clicking the smiley symbol in the bottom right corner of the text options where you put your cursor. Then flipping back to "HTML Text" if you want.

The second option works pretty well. One weakness appears to be that if you go too crazy clicking emoticons, the system eventually gets overloaded. I was able to put three emoticons in a row before the thing lost its place in the cyber-space. Nevertheless, since one emoticon is plenty for the majority of uses, this method is good. Thank you!
