      Schedule right now is:

        2010 Iron Man II
        2011 Thor, Captain America
2012 Avengers, plus one secret movie

That's disappointing. They're focusing on making a tiny number of incredibly expensive "tentpole" features, instead of diversifying into a larger number of good smaller films. Marvel's properties are vast. Things like Power Man & Iron Fist and the Man Thing could be brought to the screen in spectacular fashion very inexpensively. I thought the Ant Man feature was a great idea. "Tentpole" features centered around spectacle become such big money risks that they develop Bigger, Dumber, Louder Syndrome, unless guided by the hand of a filmmaker with enough pull to get his way, which doesn't often happen.

Remember that Marvel is still in "debt" here, taking out a $500M dollar loan to finance these movies. There are also fixed costs for a movie, where certain things are going to cost the same no matter what movie it is.

So from that viewpoint, it makes sense to start off with the blockbuster movies. These movies are probably less risky, because you have a good chance of making back your money. Iron Man may cost twice as much as a Luke Cage movie, but it has the potential to make three times as much.

Something like Luke Cage might only cost $100M to make, but it might only make $150. Iron Man might cost $150M, but it can make $300M.

So I can understand it. Since Marvel has said that it's goal is to release 4 movies a year, some of those are going to be smaller films. You might get a horror/monster movie in October, a family comedy movie in Dec, a romantic movie in February, etc. And they will all be Marvel movies.
