Yeah, that seems to be his big hook: he's ridiculously powerful and sometimes crazy and ruthless.

Well his hook would probably be "Crazy Superman at Marvel". \:\)

I don't know that Sentry's that mysterious anymore; we know pretty much everything about him as a person by this point.

He's still mysterious. We don't know the full extent of his powers, so Sentry suddenly being resurrected in Dark Avengers isn't a shock. Depending on the story, he's also been given different origins. We don't even know the full relationship between the Void and the Sentry.

The problem is that Sentry, used properly, tends to reduce all other characters to irrelevance as far as plotting goes. Unless he's the menace, it's fairly hard to plot coherent stories around him involving other heroes.

I agree, but this is also the inherent problem with writing a good Superman story. Originally I was against the inclusion of the Sentry in the modern Marvel Universe, and thought he worked better as a one off character that the world has to forget (from his original mini).

Now the problem is that instead of embracing his power, writers are just writing around it. Sentry cries on the moon during Civil War, Sentry cries in Space during Secret Invasion, etc.

The mental issues the character faces are interesting, to a point. But after a while, no one cares.

The ideal situation for the character now is hard. Play up the angle of despite being ultra powerful, he is afraid to take action? That's the current angle from Dark Avengers, and its sort of good.

Or maybe the character just needs to be put into a cosmic setting. The idea of a character that is searching for his humanity in a place devoid of any humans is a compelling idea to me.
