Hmm. Maybe. But it will only work for me (as a reading device) if the screen is eye-friendly.

Since you brought it up, the screen being hard to read has been one of the complaints against Kindle.

IIRC, the original Kindle actually had good contrast on their screen, making it easy to read. Which was one of the major selling points (easy on the eyes).

Then they brought out the Kindle 2, which had bad contrast (hard on the eyes), and people hated it. Many people wanted the first version instead of the second.

Then they brought out the DX, which apparently has good contrast (easy on the eyes) again. The DX also supports pdfs files now.

It seems that the Kindle also doesn't support removable media like a SD card. That's going to be a major disadvantage, something that competing systems will certainly have. Imagine fitting a 1000 issues of comics on an SD card.
