I posted this on the Spiderman board. In hindsight I think I should have posted it here, so here it is.

I'm hearing a lot of rumors about Spider-man 4 and what will be in it. I hope it doesn't happen. I'm done with the Sam Rami/Toby Maguire/Kirsten Dunst Spidey franchise. Now I liked these movies, I must have seen the first one like 10 times in the theater when it came out. I was there opening night for 2 and I liked it and I was there opening night for 3 and....well....I basically liked it, more or less. You know what shot down my opinion of the Spidey movie franchise? Two words. Iron Man. Though not just Iron Man but really also the last Hulk movie and Punisher War Zone. Those raised the bar for the marvel movie in a big way. Take Punisher War Zone for example. I wager if you didnt like that movie your not much of a Punisher fan to begin with because that was everything a Punisher movie should be. Now compare it to the 2004 Punisher movie. That wasnt a bad movie per say, I enjoyed it, in fact I own it on dvd, but it was Hollywood's Punisher. Punisher War Zone, that was MARVELS Punisher. Look at 2003's Hulk. What a disaster that was. There was Hollywood's take on the Hulk, and it wasn't even ok, it was horrible. Look at 2008's Hulk. Awesome. And thats the thing I now know I dont have to settel for Hollywood's versions of these characters.

So I hope Spider-man can be taken away from Sony, for that matter lets get X-men away from Fox. Same with Fantastic Four, and Daredevil. Maybe you thought those movies were ok or even pretty good, or maybe you thought they sucked, but either way now its obvious it can be done much better. Iron Man raised the bar. I cant settle for Hollywood's distorted versions anymore.

The way I see it, Iron Man raises the bar for every comic book movie including those not owned by Marvel. We can expect SM 4 to reach for the high quality of IM as well as any other comic property coming to the screen. If Marvel's films continue to be high quality successes, it is most likely that the off screen talents working on them will quickly be courted by the studioes that own the other Marvel properties to ensure the success of their films. This means that we can expect higher quality comic films all around.
