Quote:I posted this on the Spiderman board. In hindsight I think I should have posted it here, so here it is.
Quote:I'm hearing a lot of rumors about Spider-man 4 and what will be in it. I hope it doesn't happen. I'm done with the Sam Rami/Toby Maguire/Kirsten Dunst Spidey franchise. Now I liked these movies, I must have seen the first one like 10 times in the theater when it came out. I was there opening night for 2 and I liked it and I was there opening night for 3 and....well....I basically liked it, more or less. You know what shot down my opinion of the Spidey movie franchise? Two words. Iron Man. Though not just Iron Man but really also the last Hulk movie and Punisher War Zone. Those raised the bar for the marvel movie in a big way. Take Punisher War Zone for example. I wager if you didnt like that movie your not much of a Punisher fan to begin with because that was everything a Punisher movie should be. Now compare it to the 2004 Punisher movie. That wasnt a bad movie per say, I enjoyed it, in fact I own it on dvd, but it was Hollywood's Punisher. Punisher War Zone, that was MARVELS Punisher. Look at 2003's Hulk. What a disaster that was. There was Hollywood's take on the Hulk, and it wasn't even ok, it was horrible. Look at 2008's Hulk. Awesome. And thats the thing I now know I dont have to settel for Hollywood's versions of these characters.
Well my opinion on Spider-man is I liked the first one when it came out, really liked the second one and was dissapointed in the third one. But after seeing the newer crop of movies, like Iron man I have found myself liking the spider man movies less and less. They are still good but just not as good to me overall. Not sure why.
Iron man was pretty much the best comic movie that Marvel has done and to many is the best comic movie period, just depends on how much you like Dark Knight. I admitt that the new Hulk was much better than the first movie and to be honest I think it would have done better if it was the first Hulk movie in a long time as opposed to a redo of a movie that is a living joke.
As for Punisher I am a pretty big fan, and I hated the new movie. I really liked the Tom Jane 2004 movie. I thought the one captured more of the sorrow in the character. Does it match the Max series or the heat of the other series when he is harden and in the throw of things. No, it does not but I think it makes the character more approachable. Not to mention I think how the did Jiggsaw made him a living joke, and there were just so many campy moments that it was like okay.
Quote:So I hope Spider-man can be taken away from Sony, for that matter lets get X-men away from Fox. Same with Fantastic Four, and Daredevil. Maybe you thought those movies were ok or even pretty good, or maybe you thought they sucked, but either way now its obvious it can be done much better. Iron Man raised the bar. I cant settle for Hollywood's distorted versions anymore.
I doubt Marvel can get those titles back if they wanted to really. For Sony it was to much of a cash cow and so are X-men. Daredevil I can see them might be able to get back. But the other two they still make some money from each of them, but I just do not think that they will be able to get the rights back.
They are being a bit more accurate to the source material in the movies that Marvel makes, although with Punisher that was the only exception of movie I think got worse, but I think they could have done much better with some of their own characters.
