Can anyone explain to me how they think the readers benefit from this?

1) Toned down stories Family theme.

2) Prices aren't going to drop.

3) The censors will be out. If Marvel attempts to publish a controversial storyline that might offend it's parent company can crush it because of bad publicity.

4) Does Disney really have any interest in Marvel's publishing aspect. Clearly owning the licensing rights to the characters and the ability to stick Spiderman's image on anything is worth more than the publishing part. I realize Warner owns DC and they are still publishing.

Sheesh.

May not recognize it soon.

Answers:

1) Who says Disney is going to require Marvel to change. In fact, acording to the press I've read, they are going to continue to let Marvel run itself. Disney is only in it for the monetary gain they achieve by formally owning all the character licenses related to Marvel. To spoil the pot would be a detriment to Disney.

2) Who says prices WOULD decrease simply because Disney buys Marvel? Its all about profit. They may come out with another line of cheaper comics aimed specifically at a younger audience, but the current comics will only change as the market changes which has always been the case anyhow.

3) Why does Marvel NEED to print Anti-Disney references in Marvel comics? What is the incentive? If you mean rather that Marvel will suddenly be forced to pull it "Adult" line of comics, no. As was stated below, DC continues as is under Warner, and Warner is unaffected. Marvel and Disney will be able to co-exist as easily as Disney and Miramax and other more "controversial" aspects of Disney's subsidiaries already do.

4) Press releases said that Disney will continue to let Marvel run Marvel. Disney is interested in the PROFIT to be gained from owning Marvel, just as it has gained by owning Pixar.

Its doubtful you'll see any overt changes in Marvel comics other than a stronger foundation to support it.
